Bethel Christian Centre

Bethel Christian Centre offer various community activities, including a food bank, parent and toddler groups and various children clubs.

We have Community Lounge every Thursday from 1-4pm.

We also do an After School Children’s Club for 5-10 year olds every Wednesday.

We offer Community Kids Club every Wednesday (except every 1st Wednesday of the month) from 4-5pm for ages 5-10.

We have regular activities for young people aged 11-16 years.

We have a ‘Ladies Tea’ for women of all ages every 2nd Monday.  Give us a call to check if it’s on this week.  Chance to meet with other women, enjoy tea and cake & explore more about women in the bible.

Community Resources

Community Resources provides a range of activities at the Hub including parent & children activities, English conversation classes, Family learning and personal development programmes.

We run lunch clubs on Tuesday and Wednesdays where people can enjoy a home cooked hot lunch for £1.50.  We also can provide vouchers for local Food Banks and provide a clothes bank for both adults and children.

We run a Community Café where anyone is  welcome – no need to book, just drop in.  Wednesday 13.00-14.30.  There is a small charge  (up to £2) for most workshops and there is limited crèche provision.

We have trained facilitators who offer couples and parents support including;

  • Prepare Enrich UK, a nationally known couples programme,
  • Getting Ready for Your Baby, a 4 week antenatal programme
  • Parenting courses and 1-2-1 support for parents

We also have a team of trained volunteers who can offer 1-2-1 support for people who are feeling vulnerable or isolated or who have mental health issues.

Family Information Service (LBBD)

Barking and Dagenham Family Information Service (FIS) provides comprehensive information and advice on the services available to parents, including information on local childcare and early years nurseries and pre-schools.

FIS works closely with children’s centres, Jobcentre Plus, youth services, family services, libraries and many more to support children, young people, families and people who work with families.

You can also ask at your child’s school if there is a PSA available for you to talk to.

Relate

Relate supports people to make the most of their couple and family relationships, past, present or future. They can help you even if you’re not currently in a relationship.

Their services include Relationship Counselling for individuals and couples, Family Counselling, Mediation, Children and Young People’s Counselling and Sex Therapy. They also provide friendly and informal workshops for people at important stages in their relationships.

The nearest Relate Centre is listed below where there are licensed local counsellors that provide face-to-face counselling and support.

Shpresa Programme

Shpresa is an organisation that offers a range of services for families across Barking & Dagenham.  This includes;

For Families: we offer support groups, parenting classes, English classes (formal & informal) and we have our own food bank.

Children & Young People: we have sports activities including:

  • Dancing
  • Kickboxing
  • Football
  • Self defense

Shpresa also offers services for looked after children and professionals can refer directly.

Training: we provide Teaching Assistant training (Level 1, 2, 3) and also Health & Social Care qualifications. Supporting people into employment.

Volunteering: we provide many opportunities for people to volunteer with us. This is particularly useful for people who are keen to move into employment.

Shpresa also has a specialist advice support at their offices in E13 on a Friday.

Our services are open to anyone and we are also have specialist support for Albanian speaking residents.  Why not pop along to our sessions at Gascoigne School, Barking on Thursday 5pm – 7pm or Mayfield School, Dagenham on Sundays 10am – 1pm.
