DigiLab

DigiLab is a community based hub for creative coders and makers to meet, share skills and collaborate on projects.   It’s an exciting new initiative in Barking & Dagenham which is open to anyone over 8 years old.  

No previous knowledge is required, we provide children, young people and adults with the chance to explore new types of technology; electronics, coding, 3D printing and 3D design. 

You can just pop into the DigiLab (see opening times and address below) and the support workers will connect you into their resources.  There are also specific classes and workshops and you can find out more by contacting one of the team.

Excel Women’s Centre

Barking & Dagenham Somali Women’s Association delivers a range of services at their Excel Women’s Centre. They are a locally based health, well being, training and employability organisation committed to providing support to women and their families in Barking & Dagenham (and surrounding boroughs).

Promoting independence community cohesion and integration to the wider society they offer;

  • Women’s Wellness Café
  • Coffee morning
  • ESOL and IT Classes
  • Parents and Carers Support group
  • Job Club for women
  • HuG Club for women
  • Health & Wellness Workshops
  • Online learning for women
  • Youth activities / mentoring
  • Online learning
  • Homework club
  • Art and Craft session
  • Sewing Sisters Club every Friday 10 am -1 pm for women ONLY.

They are also a Resident Focus Point for residents of Barking & Dagenham.

The centre has 10 local volunteers  who between them speak 7 community languages. More on their website

The Adult College of Barking and Dagenham

The Adult College has been providing courses to the local community for over 30 years.

We are committed to support every adult in Barking & Dagenham to further their learning through vibrant and innovative programmes.

  • Our free Skills for Life programme and low cost courses, help those without qualifications to progress towards Level Two courses and gain nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Our wide range of vocational (on the job) programmes offer qualifications that will build your skills and improve your job prospects.
  • Returning to learning could be the first step in achieving your goals and ambitions.  Learning does not have to be about getting a qualification

There’s great satisfaction from getting to grips with something new, and proving to yourself that you can do it!  You don’t need to make a huge time commitment to learn something new.  Many of our courses are only one or two hours long per week.
