Community Resources provides a range of activities at the Hub including parent & children activities, English conversation classes, Family learning and personal development programmes.

We run lunch clubs on Tuesday and Wednesdays where people can enjoy a home cooked hot lunch for £1.50.  We also can provide vouchers for local Food Banks and provide a clothes bank for both adults and children.

We run a Community Café where anyone is  welcome – no need to book, just drop in.  Wednesday 13.00-14.30.  There is a small charge  (up to £2) for most workshops and there is limited crèche provision.

We have trained facilitators who offer couples and parents support including;

  • Prepare Enrich UK, a nationally known couples programme,
  • Getting Ready for Your Baby, a 4 week antenatal programme
  • Parenting courses and 1-2-1 support for parents

We also have a team of trained volunteers who can offer 1-2-1 support for people who are feeling vulnerable or isolated or who have mental health issues.

Excel Women’s Centre

The centre has 10 local volunteers  and who between them speak 7 community languages.

Excel women’s centre is women resource centre for B &D residents.

We provide courses in Skill and employability support ,  Esol, basic IT and functional skills course, Health and Social care and child care course L1, L2.

Excel Women’s Centre

The Excel Women’s Centre (also Somali Women’s Association) is a locally based health, wellbeing, training and employability organisation committed to providing support to women and their families in Barking & Dagenham (and surrounding boroughs).

Promoting independence community cohesion and integration to the wider society.  Services include;

  1. Advice Project
  2. Informal Learning Project
  3. IT and Vocational Training
  4. Work Club and Unemployment Program
  5. Lunch Club for older people
  6. Youth Project – funded by London borough of Barking and Dagenham through the youth opportunity fund
  7. Family Learning Programme – for parents & children who want to improve their English.
  8. Carers Support Group
  9. Activities for young people
  10. In addition to the above we also support to facilitate and run the Somali Women’s group, which is a User Led project to support women with mental health support needs.

Shpresa Programme

Shpresa is an organisation that offers a range of services for families across Barking & Dagenham.  This includes;

For Families: we offer support groups, parenting classes, English classes (formal & informal) and we have our own food bank.

Children & Young People: we have sports activities including:

  • Dancing
  • Kickboxing
  • Football
  • Self defense

Shpresa also offers services for looked after children and professionals can refer directly.

Training: we provide Teaching Assistant training (Level 1, 2, 3) and also Health & Social Care qualifications. Supporting people into employment.

Volunteering: we provide many opportunities for people to volunteer with us. This is particularly useful for people who are keen to move into employment.

Shpresa also has a specialist advice support at their offices in E13 on a Friday.

Our services are open to anyone and we are also have specialist support for Albanian speaking residents.  Why not pop along to our sessions at Gascoigne School, Barking on Thursday 5pm – 7pm or Mayfield School, Dagenham on Sundays 10am – 1pm.
